Note: Lofty is rolling out in stages. Depending on the version your account is on, some features or screens described in this article may look different or may not yet be available to you.
Introduction
Meta tags are snippets of text that describe each page's content. They don't appear on the page itself — they live in the page's source code and tell search engines and social platforms what your page is about. Setting accurate meta tags helps your pages rank better in search results and display well when shared on social media.
Lofty supports three meta fields per page: Meta Title, Meta Keywords, and Meta Description.
How to Edit a Page's Meta Tags
- Open the Website CMS (Content > Websites, then click your site).
- In the Pages panel, find the page you want to edit.
- Click the Edit icon on that page row to open the page editor.
- Click the Page SEO section within the page settings.
The Three Meta Fields
Meta Title
The text shown in the browser tab and in search engine results as the title of your page. This is one of the most impactful SEO elements — it tells both Google and human visitors what the page is about.
Best practice: Keep meta titles under 60 characters. Include your target keyword near the beginning.
Meta Description
A brief summary of the page that sometimes appears beneath the title in Google search results. It does not directly impact rankings, but a well-written description increases click-through rates.
Best practice: Write 140–160 characters that clearly describe the page and entice visitors to click.
Meta Keywords
A series of keywords describing the page's content. Meta keywords no longer provide SEO benefit — search engines stopped using them years ago. Lofty supports the field, but Lofty does not recommend configuring it.
Variables (Merge Fields)
All three meta fields support variables — dynamic values that update automatically when your CMS data changes. Click the + Insert variable button in the field to see available options.
Variables are useful for things like automatically including a city name, agent name, or property type in your meta titles across many pages without editing each one manually.
SNS Cover Photo
The SNS Cover Photo is the image shown when someone shares your page link on social media (Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn) or via iMessage or email. If not set, social platforms may pull a random image from the page.
Upload a high-quality, horizontal image (recommended: 1200×630px) that represents the page's content.
Tips
- Prioritize your Home, About, and neighborhood pages first. These pages receive the most direct search traffic and benefit most from optimized meta tags.
- Write for people, not just search engines. The meta description is often the first thing a visitor reads about your page in search results — make it compelling.
- Don't skip the SNS Cover Photo. Pages shared on social media without a defined image look unprofessional and attract fewer clicks.
