Introduction
Search engines like Google and Bing require you to verify ownership of your website before you can access their webmaster tools and data. The easiest way to do this is by adding a verification meta tag to the <head> of your website. Lofty provides a dedicated field for this so you can add tags without touching any code.
How to Add Verification Meta Tags
- Open the Website CMS (Content > Websites, then click your site).
- Go to Settings > Tools > Header Meta Tags.
- Paste your verification meta tag into the appropriate field — Google Meta or Bing Meta.
- Save your settings.
The tag is automatically added to the <head> of every page on your site.
Getting Your Verification Meta Tag
Google Search Console
- Go to Google Search Console
- Add your property (your website URL)
- Choose HTML tag as the verification method
- Copy the
<meta>tag provided - Paste it into the Google Meta field in Lofty
Bing Webmaster Tools
- Go to Bing Webmaster Tools
- Add your website
- Choose the Meta tag verification method
- Copy the
<meta>tag provided - Paste it into the Bing Meta field in Lofty
After adding the tag, return to the search console and click Verify to complete the process.
Tips
- Verify both Google and Bing. Google handles the majority of search traffic, but Bing (which also powers search on some AI platforms) is worth verifying too.

Only paste the meta tag, not the full HTML. The tag looks like:
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="abc123..." />. Paste the whole tag, including the angle brackets. - Verification is separate from data access. Once verified, you'll have access to indexing data, crawl errors, and search performance reports in each tool's dashboard.
