Note: Lofty is rolling out in stages. Depending on the version your account is on, some features or screens described in this article may look different or may not yet be available to you.
Introduction
After updating your domain's DNS records to point to Lofty, it can take time for those changes to take effect. Understanding how DNS propagation works — and what to check when something seems wrong — saves time and reduces frustration.
DNS Propagation
DNS changes don't take effect immediately. After you update your A records or CNAME records, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours for the changes to fully propagate across the internet.
What to do while waiting: - Don't make additional changes to your DNS records — this resets the propagation clock. - Use a DNS propagation checker tool (such as whatsmydns.net) to see if your records have updated in different regions. - Check back in a few hours before assuming something is wrong.
Most Common DNS Issues
Incorrect A Records
Your Lofty website requires these exact A records:
| Type | Value |
|---|---|
| A | 52.52.24.52 |
| A | 52.9.101.47 |
All other A records and AAAA records must be removed. Extra records pointing to other servers will prevent your domain from connecting to Lofty correctly.
How to verify: Log in to your domain provider and check the DNS settings for your domain. Confirm only the two Lofty IP addresses are listed.
Missing or Incorrect CNAME Record
Add a CNAME record with: - Name: www - Value: yourdomain.com (your actual domain)
Without this record, visitors who type www.yourdomain.com may get an error even though yourdomain.com works fine.
Domain Provider Doesn't Support Wildcard CNAMEs
If you're trying to set up Agent Website subdomains using a wildcard CNAME (Name=*), some domain providers don't support this. In that case, you'll need to add individual CNAME records for each agent subdomain manually.
Provider-Specific Help
- GoDaddy: See [GoDaddy Domain Configuration Guide] for step-by-step DNS instructions specific to GoDaddy.
- Other providers: Refer to your provider's help documentation for how to manage A records and CNAME records. The process is similar across providers — the interface is just different.
- Need Lofty to do it for you: Email support@lofty.com with your domain provider login credentials or delegate access. See [Domain Configuration Guide] for delegate access instructions per provider.
