Note: Lofty is rolling out in stages. Depending on the version your account is on, some features or screens described in this article may look different or may not yet be available to you.
Introduction
If your domain is registered with GoDaddy, Lofty offers a streamlined connection experience. When you enter a GoDaddy domain in the CMS, a pop-up gives you two options: let Lofty configure it automatically, or do it yourself.
Before You Begin
- Your Lofty website must be a Full SEO site to connect a custom domain.
- Make sure you have access to your GoDaddy account. You can either:
- Grant delegate access to loftydomains01@gmail.com (recommended — see [Domain Configuration Guide] for instructions)
- Handle the DNS configuration yourself using the manual steps below
Option 1: "Do It for Me" (Automatic)
When you enter your GoDaddy domain in the CMS, a pop-up appears. Select Do it for me.
This option uses GoDaddy's API to automatically update your DNS records. Follow the prompts in the CMS — you may be asked to log in to GoDaddy or authorize access.
After automatic configuration: DNS and SSL are set up automatically. You'll receive a confirmation email when complete.
Option 2: "Do It Myself" (Manual)
If you prefer to update the DNS records yourself, select Do it Myself and follow these steps in your GoDaddy account:
Step 1: Log in to GoDaddy
Go to godaddy.com and sign in to your account.
Step 2: Find DNS Settings
Navigate to your domain's DNS management page: - Click Domains in the top navigation - Find your domain and click DNS or Manage DNS
Step 3: Update A Records
Delete any existing A records and add these two:
| Type | Name | Value | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | @ | 52.52.24.52 | 600 seconds (or default) |
| A | @ | 52.9.101.47 | 600 seconds (or default) |
Remove all other A records and AAAA records. Only the two Lofty IP addresses above should remain.
Step 4: Add a CNAME Record
Add a new CNAME record:
| Type | Name | Value | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|
| CNAME | www | yourdomain.com | 1 hour (or default) |
Replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain.
Step 5: Save
Save all changes in GoDaddy, then return to your Lofty CMS and confirm each step is complete.
After Configuration
Once your DNS records are saved: - Wait up to 48 hours for DNS propagation (usually much faster) - SSL is automatically installed after the domain connects - Your site will be accessible at your custom domain
Wildcard CNAME for Agent Websites (GoDaddy)
To enable Agent Website subdomains (firstname.yourdomain.com), add:
| Type | Name | Value | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|
| CNAME | * | yourdomain.com | 1 hour |
GoDaddy supports wildcard CNAME records. After adding this, Agent Websites can be created automatically in the CMS.
