Note: Lofty is rolling out in stages. Depending on the version your account is on, some features or screens described in this article may look different or may not yet be available to you.
Introduction
Website cookies are small text files stored on a visitor's device when they browse your site. They enable things like remembering preferences, tracking usage, and enabling marketing.
Lofty manages the cookie policy for all Lofty-hosted websites — your visitors have the option to accept or decline specific categories of cookies through a cookie banner. You don't need to write or maintain a cookie policy yourself.
The Four Cookie Types
Strictly Necessary Cookies
Required for the website to function correctly. These cookies cannot be disabled — without them, the site cannot load or operate. They handle authentication, access control, and site security.
Performance Cookies
Collect data about how visitors use the site — pages visited, errors encountered, and navigation patterns. They do not collect personal information. Used for web analytics, affiliate link tracking, and identifying site errors.
Functional Cookies
Enable enhanced features and remember visitor preferences — layout choices, language settings, text size. Also used to remember if a visitor has already submitted a form or completed a survey, and to display embedded videos and multimedia.
Targeting Cookies
Collect information about browsing habits across multiple websites to deliver relevant advertising and measure marketing campaign effectiveness. Used for personalized content recommendations and ad targeting.
How Visitors Manage Cookie Preferences
When a visitor arrives on your Lofty-hosted website, they are presented with a cookie consent banner. They can:
- Accept all cookies — Strictly Necessary, Performance, Functional, and Targeting
- Reject non-essential cookies — only Strictly Necessary cookies will be set
- Customize preferences — choose which cookie categories to allow
Strictly Necessary cookies are always active and cannot be opted out of.
For details on configuring the cookie banner on your site, see [Cookie Preference Settings].
Your Cookie Policy
Lofty maintains a comprehensive cookie policy for all websites hosted on the platform. The policy covers:
- What cookies are and why they are used
- The types of cookies used and their purpose
- How visitors can accept, reject, or manage their preferences
- Information about third-party cookies from integrated services
- How long cookies are retained
- User rights and control over cookie data
This policy satisfies disclosure requirements in many jurisdictions, including GDPR-aligned transparency standards. Lofty updates the policy as regulations evolve.
Tips
- Don't modify cookie behavior through custom code without understanding the compliance implications — adding tracking scripts can introduce cookie categories your policy doesn't cover.
- Inform visitors about third-party integrations — if you've added tools like Facebook Pixel, Google Analytics, or other scripts, those may set their own cookies. Lofty's policy covers standard integrations, but custom third-party scripts may require disclosure review.
