Note: Lofty is rolling out in stages. Depending on the version your account is on, some features or screens described in this article may look different or may not yet be available to you.
Introduction
Lofty's cookie preference settings let your website visitors choose which categories of cookies they allow. By default, visitors are set to opt out of non-essential cookies — meaning they must actively choose to accept performance and targeting cookies.
This default protects visitor privacy and helps your site comply with GDPR and similar regulations.
How the Default Setting Works
When a visitor arrives on your site for the first time, the cookie consent banner appears. Until they make a choice:
- Strictly Necessary cookies are always active
- Performance, Functional, and Targeting cookies are off by default
Visitors who accept cookies will have the full cookie suite active. Visitors who decline or ignore the banner will only have Strictly Necessary cookies set.
Impact on Google Analytics
The opt-out default means fewer visitors will consent to performance and analytics cookies. This affects the data collected by Google Analytics:
| Metric | Typical impact with consent mode |
|---|---|
| GA events (actions tracked) | ~40% decrease |
| Total users reported | ~60% decrease |
| Lead/registration data in CRM | Not affected |
Why the CRM data is unaffected: Leads captured through the registration pop-up and forms are stored directly in Lofty's CRM, not through Google Analytics. Cookie consent has no impact on lead capture.
Why GA data decreases: Visitors who decline cookies don't send analytics events to Google. This reduces the data available in your GA dashboard — but does not mean fewer visitors or leads.
Google Consent Mode
Lofty has implemented Google Consent Mode to mitigate data loss from cookie opt-outs. Consent Mode allows Google to model estimated behavior for users who declined cookies, using aggregated and anonymized signals.
For data modeling to work, your site needs at least 1,000 consented visitor interactions. Sites with lower traffic may see significant GA reporting gaps that cannot be modeled by Google.
Tips
- Don't rely solely on GA data for lead tracking. Your Lofty CRM captures leads directly — this data is not affected by cookie preferences and gives you a more accurate picture of your lead generation performance.
- Understand the trade-off. A more permissive default increases GA data accuracy but may face regulatory scrutiny in certain markets. A more restrictive default protects visitor privacy and reduces compliance risk.
- Review your third-party integrations. If you've added Facebook Pixel, ad tracking scripts, or other tools, ensure they are also respecting cookie consent signals.
