Saving and Restoring Website Versions (Lofty AOS)

Introduction

The version history tool lets you save named snapshots of your website at any point. If you make changes that don't work out — or if a previous version performed better — you can restore it without having to redo your edits one by one.

Restored versions don't go live until you click Publish, so you can review before committing.

Before You Begin

• You can store up to 6 saved versions at a time. Delete old versions you no longer need to free up slots.
• Landing pages are not affected by version restores. If your site has landing pages, those remain unchanged regardless of which site version you restore.
• Always save your current version before restoring another one. This gives you a fallback if you change your mind.
• Restoring a version overwrites your current working state. This action is reversible only if you saved a version beforehand — use the Undo icon if you haven't published yet.

Saving a Website Version

1. Open the Website CMS (from Lofty top nav: Content > Websites, then click your site).
2. After making edits you want to preserve, click the Save icon in the top-right of the page editor.
3. A dialog appears asking you to name this version. Enter a descriptive name (for example, "July Homepage Redesign" or "Pre-SEO Update Backup").
4. The version is saved and appears in your version list.

Restoring a Previous Version

1. In the page editor, click the Website Version icon in the top menu bar (located in the middle of the top bar).
2. Your list of saved versions appears. Review the names to identify the version you want.
3. Click Restore next to the version you want to load.
4. The page editor preview updates to show the restored version. Your current working state has been overwritten in the preview — but the change has not gone live yet.
5. Review the restored version in the preview.
   • If it looks correct, click Publish to make it live.
   • If you want to undo the restore, click the Undo icon in the top bar before publishing.

Managing Your Version Slots

You can store up to 6 saved versions. When you reach the limit, you must delete a version before saving a new one.

To delete a version:

1. Click the Website Version icon in the top bar to open the version list.
2. Find the version you want to remove.
3. Click Delete on that version entry and confirm.

Tips

• Save before big changes. Any time you're about to make significant edits — new template, major layout overhaul, bulk content changes — save your current version first.
• Save before restoring. Before you restore an older version, save the current state. That way, if the restore isn't what you expected, you have a way back.
• Landing pages are safe. If you maintain landing pages, you don't need to worry about them — version restores don't touch landing pages.
• Use Undo before publishing. If you restore a version by mistake and haven't published yet, the Undo icon in the top bar will cancel the restore.

Troubleshooting

I restored a version but my live site still shows the old design. Restoring a version only updates the editor preview — it doesn't go live until you click Publish. Go back to the editor and click Publish to apply the restored version.

I can't save a new version — the Save icon isn't responding. You may have reached the 6-version limit. Open the version list, delete a version you no longer need, and try saving again.

I restored the wrong version. If you haven't published yet, click the Undo icon in the top bar to cancel the restore. If you have already published, restore the version you actually wanted from the version list and publish again.

My landing page content changed after a version restore. Landing pages are not affected by site version restores. If your landing page content changed, the change was likely made directly to the landing page, not through a site version restore.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does restoring a version delete my current working state permanently? Yes — once you restore a version, your previous working state is overwritten in the editor. This is why we recommend saving your current version before restoring. If you haven't published yet, you can still click Undo to reverse the restore.

Can I preview a saved version before restoring it?

Are versions shared across all pages, or are they per-page? Site versions capture the entire website — all pages, blocks, navigation, and settings — in a single snapshot. They are not per-page.

What happens if I publish while viewing a restored version? The restored version goes live on your website. This is the intended workflow — restore, review, then publish when ready.

Can I share a saved version with someone else for review?
