Introduction
On December 30, 2020, Lofty released an improved Google Chrome sign-up option on all Lofty websites. The availability of this option has already resulted in an uptick in site visitor registrations due to how easy it is to click one button to register. Here is what that sign-up option looks like:
Summary
Requirements
Not all site visitors will be presented with this pop-up to log in via Google. The following requirements must be in place in order for this to work correctly:
(a) Using Chrome as the browser. This is not supported on other browsers as it is a Google feature.
(b) Signed into Chrome browser with a Google profile. See Turn sync on and off in Chrome: Sign in and turn on sync for more information.
(c) On a desktop computer. The pop-up will only appear on desktops and on mobile Chrome browsers.
(d) Gmail/Google login enabled. The login for Gmail/Google must be enabled on your website. Our Support Team turns this on by default when setting up all Lofty websites, but you will also need to make sure that the checkbox is enabled under CMS > Settings > Lead Capture > Pop-up Style & Settings > Registration Settings > Add Third Party Registration: Google:
How it Works
There are two different situations that are possible here depending on the forced registration settings configured via the Lofty CMS: (1) no phone number is required or (2) a phone number is required. This setting can be found by navigating to CMS > Settings > Lead Capture > Pop-up Style & Settings > Second Step:
Then scroll down, and select either "Required" or "Optional" for the Input Phone field under Registration Settings:
(1) No phone number is required
If no phone number is required, a site visitor can click on the option to log in via Google at the top-right and they will automatically see their name appear and their account connected. For a sample of what this looks like, see the GIF below:

(2) A phone number is required
If a phone number is required, a site visitor will be able to click on the Google login option at the top-right and Lofty will automatically capture the email address. However, the site visitor will then be presented with a screen to provide their phone number and then be presented with any questionnaire (see Questionnaire Settings) immediately after providing their phone number. FAQs
- What is the difference between this feature and the standard Google login option?
- Is this supported on mobile devices?
- Will the Google sign-in option continue to appear on the screen or will it go away if navigating to another page or hitting the "x"?
- Will this be available on other browsers? Or only Chrome?
- At first, it appears with a link to the privacy policy. However, if a site visitor signed in with Google, signed out, and came back to my site, why does the privacy policy not appear again?
What is the difference between this feature and the standard Google login option?
Signing in via the original option is a multiple-step process. The "original" Google login process is shown in this screenshot below:
Signing in starts here where a site visitor would click "Continue with Gmail":
A separate window would appear asking which account:
And finally, authorization would be provided--unless a phone number was also required at which point it would request the phone number:
As you can see, the one-click option is much quicker.
Is this supported on mobile devices?
No, it is currently not supported on Chrome browsers on a mobile device. However, an update expected in February 2021 will allow for mobile site visitors (on a Chrome browser) to also sign in via this option.
Will the Google sign-in option continue to appear on the screen or will it go away if navigating to another page or hitting the "x"?
When navigating to other pages within that Lofty website, the pop-up should continue to appear if it has not been clicked yet. However, once dismissed (by hitting the "x" in the corner of the bubble), it will not appear again.
Will this be available on other browsers? Or only Chrome?
This is a Google Chrome-powered feature. No other browsers currently support this. However, Lofty is always investigating new ways to make signing into your websites easier for clients and will be on the lookout for more options in the future.
At first, it appears with a link to the privacy policy. However, if a site visitor signed in with Google, signed out, and came back to my site, why does the privacy policy not appear again?
The Google Chrome browser remembers that the site visitor has already seen the option to review the privacy policy. It will not hide it unless it already believes it has been seen by the Chrome user.
