Note: Lofty is rolling out in stages. Depending on the version your account is on, some features or screens described in this article may look different or may not yet be available to you.
Introduction
The Featured Areas Block displays a curated selection of your neighborhood and area pages directly on any page of your website. Use it on your Home page, a regional landing page, or anywhere you want to showcase the communities you serve.
Important: Before you can add this block, you must first import the areas you want to feature through Settings > Featured Areas in the CMS. The block only displays areas that have already been set up there.
Step 1: Import Your Areas (Settings First)
Areas must be set up before they can be added to the block.
- In the CMS, go to Settings > Featured Areas.
- Click + Add New Area.
- Use the search bar to find the area you want to add (city, neighborhood, or zip code).
- Select all the areas you need and click OK.
Note: If the OK button is grayed out, you have already imported that area.
Each newly imported area automatically generates a neighborhood introduction page that is styled to match your website template. The area will not appear on your site until you add the corresponding page to navigation or use the Featured Areas Block.
To manage imported areas: Use the three buttons next to each area in the list: 1. Customize the area's page design 2. Edit the page settings (name, URL, open style) 3. Delete the area
Step 2: Add the Featured Areas Block to a Page
- Navigate to the page you want to edit in the page editor.
- Click Blocks in the left navigation.
- Find the Featured Areas block type and choose your preferred style.
-
Drag the block to the position you want on the page canvas.
- Double-click the block or click the Edit icon to open the settings panel.
Step 3: Select Your Areas
- In the edit panel, use the search bar in the Featured Area section to find the areas you want to display.
- Check the box next to each area you want to include in this block.
- Click Publish to apply the block to your live site.
Editing Block Entries
After selecting your areas, you can customize how each one appears in the block:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Edit (pencil icon) | Change the displayed name, upload a custom photo, or add a tag |
| Delete (trash icon) | Remove this area from the block |
| Reorder (drag handle) | Change the display order of areas in the block |
Note: The page design of each area (layout, blocks, content) cannot be edited from within this block. To edit the area's page design, go to Settings > Featured Areas, find the area, and click Customize.
Tips
- Import more areas than you need. You can import a larger library of areas in Settings and then selectively show only some of them in each block — different blocks on different pages can show different area subsets.
- Use custom photos for each area. Upload a representative image for each neighborhood in the block edit panel to make the section visually compelling.
- Add area pages to your navigation. When visitors click an area in the Featured Areas Block, they are taken to that area's detail page. Make sure those pages are well-built before featuring the block prominently.
- Place it above the fold on your Home page. Neighborhood expertise is a strong differentiator — featuring your areas visibly on the home page signals local knowledge to visitors immediately.
Troubleshooting
The area I want isn't appearing in the block search. The area must be imported via Settings > Featured Areas first. Only imported areas appear in the block's selection panel.
The OK button is grayed out when I try to import an area. This means the area has already been imported. Search for it in your existing areas list in Settings > Featured Areas.
I want to edit the neighborhood page content. Go to Settings > Featured Areas, find the area, and click Customize to edit the area's page design. You cannot edit page design from within the block.
Areas I deleted from the block are still showing on my live site. Make sure you clicked Publish after making changes to the block.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I show different areas in different Featured Areas Blocks on the same page? Yes. You can add multiple Featured Areas Blocks to a page and select a different subset of areas in each one.
Can I create a custom area (like a zip code or custom boundary) that isn't in the search results?
What happens if I delete an area from Settings > Featured Areas? The area's page is removed from your site and it is removed from all Featured Areas Blocks that were displaying it. Review all pages using this block before deleting an area.
Can I link a Featured Area to an external page instead of the Lofty-generated area page?
