Note: Lofty is rolling out in stages. Depending on the version your account is on, some features or screens described in this article may look different or may not yet be available to you.
Introduction
The Content Block is the most flexible block on your site. Use it to add text, images, videos, or custom HTML to any page. It comes in four layout styles to match different content needs — from simple rich text to structured three-column layouts.
Adding the Content Block
- Open the Website CMS (from Lofty top nav: Content > Websites, then click your site).
- Select the page you want to edit from the Pages panel.
- Click Blocks in the left navigation to open the block library.
- Find the Content block type.
- Choose the sub-type style you want (see below), then drag it to the position you want on the page canvas.
- Double-click the block or click the Edit icon in the top-right to open the settings panel.
- Click Publish when ready to go live.
Content Block Sub-Types
Rich Text
The most flexible content option. Use Rich Text to add any combination of formatted text, images, videos, and custom HTML or JavaScript to a single block.
What you can do in Rich Text: - Write and format text (headings, bold, italic, bullet lists, links) - Embed images and videos - Insert HTML or JavaScript using the Source Code icon on the far right of the editor toolbar
To edit Rich Text: 1. Double-click the block or click the Edit icon. 2. Click Click to Edit Rich Text in the settings panel. 3. Use the editor toolbar to format text, embed media, or add links. 4. To add custom code, click the Source Code icon to open the HTML editor.
Note: If you insert custom HTML or JavaScript, you are responsible for mobile responsiveness within your code. The block renders on mobile, but your code's layout must account for smaller screens.
For advanced custom code options, see [Advanced Website Customizations].
How it Works
A three-column layout designed for displaying a process or workflow — for example, your home buying or selling steps. Each column shows an image, a title, and a description.
- Three columns, fixed layout (cannot be changed to 2 or 4)
- Each column: image, title, description
- Best for: buyer/seller process steps, service highlights
We Are
Similar to How it Works but text-only — no images. Use it for a concise value proposition or company overview statement.
- Three columns, text only (no images)
- Background type and color can be adjusted
- Best for: company values, key differentiators, brief bios
Two-Columns, Two-Rows
A four-cell grid (2 columns × 2 rows) for displaying benefits, features, or value points. Each cell has a title and description.
- Four cells with title + description each
- Background style can be customized
- Best for: service benefits, reasons to choose your team, feature highlights
Tips
- Use Rich Text for unique, custom sections. When none of the structured layouts fit what you need, Rich Text lets you build it yourself — or embed a third-party widget via HTML.
- Keep "How it Works" to 3 steps. The layout is fixed at three columns — plan your process descriptions accordingly.
- "We Are" works well near the top of your About page. It's compact and direct — ideal for quickly communicating your value to new visitors.
- Don't embed large interactive tools in Rich Text. The block isn't optimized for large or complex embeds. Use the Embed Block for third-party scripts instead.
Troubleshooting
My custom HTML isn't displaying correctly on mobile. Rich Text renders custom HTML as-is — mobile responsiveness must be built into your code. Add CSS media queries or use responsive embed code from your third-party tool.
The "How it Works" columns look uneven. Make sure each column has content of similar length. Empty columns will look blank. If you only need two steps, consider using a different block layout.
My text edits aren't saving. Make sure you completed the edit and clicked out of the Rich Text editor before clicking Publish. If changes still don't save, try refreshing the page editor and re-entering your edits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I embed a video in a Content Block? Yes — in Rich Text, use the video embed option in the toolbar, or paste the video's embed <iframe> code using the Source Code editor.
Can I add more than three columns to the "How it Works" block? No. The "How it Works" layout is fixed at three columns and cannot be changed. For a different number of columns, use the Rich Text block and build a custom layout.
What's the difference between the Content Block and the Embed Block? The Content Block is for displaying formatted content (text, images, video). The Embed Block is specifically for embedding raw HTML or third-party scripts that need to run as code. For custom code, use the Embed Block.
