Note: Lofty is rolling out in stages. Depending on the version your account is on, some features or screens described in this article may look different or may not yet be available to you.
Introduction
An SSL certificate (Secure Sockets Layer) encrypts the connection between your website and its visitors, protecting data transmitted on your site. You can identify SSL-secured sites by the padlock icon in the browser address bar and the https:// prefix in the URL.
Lofty automatically installs and manages SSL certificates for all hosted websites — you do not need to purchase, configure, or renew SSL certificates manually.
Automatic SSL Installation
SSL is installed automatically in two scenarios:
After a custom domain is configured: Once you successfully connect your custom domain to Lofty (either through manual DNS configuration or by purchasing a domain through Lofty), the SSL certificate is automatically installed. You will receive an email notification when installation is complete.
If SSL installation fails: You will receive a notification email advising you of the failure. Contact Lofty Support at support@lofty.com or 1 (855) 981-7557 for assistance.
SSL and Agent Websites
When a wildcard CNAME is configured for Agent Websites (subdomains like firstname.yourdomain.com), SSL coverage extends automatically to those subdomains as well.
Troubleshooting SSL Errors
"Your connection is not private" or padlock warnings: This typically means the SSL certificate hasn't been installed yet (for a newly configured domain) or has failed. Give it a few hours after domain configuration — if the error persists after 24 hours, contact Lofty Support.
SSL shows as expired: Lofty manages certificate renewal automatically. If you see an expiry warning, contact Lofty Support immediately.
Mixed content warnings: These appear when an HTTPS page loads some resources over HTTP (images, scripts). If you've embedded external content or used http:// links in your custom code, update them to https://.
